VCTC's "New Energy Gateway" Project successfully topped out
Recently, the "New Energy Gateway" R&D and Exhibition Building of the Phase III R&D Project undertaken by Automotive Engineering Corporation for Volkswagen Group (China) Technology Company (VCRC) has been successfully topped out, and the parking building has passed completion acceptance. As one of the key initiatives of Volkswagen's continuous implementation of its "In China, For China" strategy, the project further expands Volkswagen's production and innovation hub in Hefei, strengthening its local R&D capabilities. Automotive Engineering Corporation was responsible for the entire conceptual planning and scheme design, laboratory layout optimization design, and construction drawing design of the parking building.

Located in the Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone, the project covers a floor area of 228,000 square meters. It includes the R&D and exhibition building, parking building, vehicle platform and part testing center, battery and power system integration testing center, software integration testing center, and solid waste storage facilities. The four-story podium arranges the design center and supporting service facilities around a courtyard, creating a microclimate space inspired by the skywell features of Hui-style architecture. The tower adopts a twin-core, four-zone floor plan, enabling an efficient, column-free layout for large-scale high-rise spaces. Vertical green terraces are introduced on the east and west façades, forming the architectural gesture of an "open gateway" while providing each floor with a comfortable semi-outdoor environment.

The parking building is connected to the R&D tower through a three-story skybridge, with distributed photovoltaic panels and rooftop greenery installed on its roof to effectively mitigate the visual impact of the rooftop parking spaces on the R&D tower. The project adopted a fully forward BIM design, completed on Automotive Engineering Corporation's independently developed 3D collaborative design platform.

Upon completion, the project will become Volkswagen Group's largest new energy technology center outside its headquarters in Germany, significantly enhancing Hefei's software and hardware ecosystem within the automotive R&D value chain. Automotive Engineering Corporation has been deeply involved in the project's design and construction, providing professional and high-quality services that empower Volkswagen with strong momentum, jointly driving the automotive industry toward greater intelligence and innovation.
